EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Mikhail Prokhorov is interested in hearing from potential buyers for the Brooklyn Nets, but a spokesperson for the Russian billionaire said Tuesday no sale is imminent. As we have said for many months, ownership is always open to listening to offers thats just good business, Ellen Pinchuk said in a statement. There is nothing imminent in terms of a sale of any stake in the team. That came in response to a report earlier Tuesday from Bloomberg News, citing two people with direct knowledge of the matter, that Prokhorov had retained Evercore Partners to sell the team.Prokhorov bought 80 per cent of the team and 45 per cent of Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2010. He said earlier this season he was willing to listen to offers for a minority share of the club but wouldnt sell his majority stake. He had set a goal of winning a championship within five years, but the Nets have gotten nowhere close despite the NBAs highest payroll. They are 16-22 this season, losers of six straight, a season after ESPN.com reported that the Nets basketball operations department lost $144 million.Prokhorov downplayed those losses when he last met with reporters before the Nets home opener in November. But he would have little problem making all of it back and more if he did sell at a time when franchise values are soaring, topped by the $2 billion Steve Ballmer paid for the Los Angeles Clippers last summer.Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he had just returned from a family vacation and didnt know what was happening with the Nets, but that owning an NBA team was difficult. It could be the ruble, it could be political issues (in Russia), he said in Sacramento before the Mavericks played the Kings. But its tough and its not an easy business. We all come in making promises of what we are going to do. Well, it took me 12 years to do what I said I was going to do, Cuban added. Its just not easy and sometimes it gets frustrating.___Associated Press writer Antonio Harvey in Sacramento, California, contributed to this report. The future of general manager Alex Anthopoulos has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks. He overhauled the roster two years ago but the Blue Jays have gone 157-167 since and extended their playoff drought to 21 years with an 83-79 finish this past season. Alex I can say for a fact is back, Beeston said Friday in an interview on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. Anthopoulos has been with the franchise for over a decade and has served as GM for the last five years. He hasnt finished what he started out to do, Beeston said. Im 100 per cent supportive of him. I think that he has done a very good job. I think we are now seeing the benefits of what happened with his development (and) his investment in the farm system. I thhink thats only going to be better for the future.dddddddddddd Beeston also said he expected manager John Gibbons to return next year. Anthopoulos has also voiced his confidence in the Blue Jays skipper, who has a rolling contract that kicks in every Jan. 1. The Blue Jays had a strong first half in 2014 but struggled after the all-star break and fell out of the playoff picture last month. Beeston said the teams payroll of about US$135-137 million will rise in 2015. The 69-year-old native of Welland, Ont., also confirmed that hes in the last year of his contract but said he has no plans to leave the organization. Im here as long as Rogers wants me here, he said. I enjoy what Im doing. Also Friday, the Blue Jays announced they have outrighted infielder Munenori Kawasaki, first baseman Dan Johnson and catcher George Kottaras to triple-A Buffalo. Johnson and Kottaras, a Toronto native, have both elected free agency.
